About BrandConnex

BrandConnex was established in 2021 by U.S. News & World Report to manage the paid usage of its content, including the display of U.S. News-trademarked award “badges” (logos) and emblems. U.S. News set up BrandConnex as a separate company to insulate the highly trusted journalism of U.S. News from any hint of commercial influence.

BrandConnex is the exclusive awards-licensing agent for U.S. News. Only BrandConnex can grant permission to display a U.S. News badge or emblem, or to promote a U.S. News ranking or rating in other ways.

Experts at U.S. News determine what standards an organization or product must meet to earn badge or emblem eligibility, and they use objective, measurable metrics to award rankings and ratings to products and organizations.

MAINTAINING EDITORIAL INTEGRITY

We don’t influence, interfere with, or reinterpret a publisher’s rankings, ratings, or content. Respected publishers possess a valuable asset: trust. We won’t do anything that undermines that trust. As U.S. News states in its communications, “Purchase of a license from BrandConnex will not affect current or future rankings, ratings, or award eligibility.”

AMPLIFICATION WITHOUT DISTORTION

A badge or emblem promotion is like a sound system: It should amplify the publisher’s content – sharing it with people who would not otherwise see it – without distorting it. If your organization has won an award, we will guide you through methods of promoting the award, enabling you to show it to members of your audience who might not otherwise see it. We will also guide you through the appropriate use of badges, emblems, and other awards promotions to ensure that the content is accurately represented.

PROTECT THE BRAND(S)

We provide a bridge between the publisher and award winners. When you partner with us, we work with you to ensure that badge usage in your marketing is accurate. This protects you from claims of misleading the public. We also try to protect the publisher’s brand by taking action against unauthorized use of its awards and by discouraging false or misleading claims about its rankings. If a client ever proposes language for an award promotion that doesn’t align with the specifications of the U.S. News award, we work with them to figure out alternatives.
